Would you like a fresher, more youthful look? If your face has sagging, loose skin, then a thread lift might be a suitable treatment for you. This face lift without surgery is a fairly new addition to the list of safe, effective aesthetic treatments. You’ll find everything you need to know about PDO threads right here. Let us answer your questions about the procedure, safety, and whether its right for you.
How does this treatment work?
Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are a special medical grade thread that is made from protein. These threads are thinner than a strand of hair. PDO stimulates the production of new collagen in the skin as well as elastin and hyaluronic acid. All of these substances are the keys to youthful-looking skin.
The treatment is quick – anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes in the doctor’s chair. The treatment provider will numb the area and apply a local anesthetic. Once this has taken effect, the PDO threads are inserted with fine blunt tip needles called cannulas. Once they are inserted, they anchor the area as the skin is lifted. The excess thread is cut and your treatment is finished.
You’ll be able to leave shortly after the procedure.
Which areas are best suited for PDO threads lifts?
Almost any part of your skin can be targeted with thread lifts. Most commonly, the areas targeted are cheeks, jaw, neck and eyes. Any area experiencing aging can benefit from this versatile treatment.
Is this treatment safe?
PDO threads have been around a long time and have been used surgically since the 1980s. These threads break down and dissolve after about six months. While the effects may not last as long as a traditional facelift, they are much less prone to complications.
As always, it’s important to share your health history with your treatment provider in order to ensure your safety and comfort.
How long is the recovery time?
There is minimal recovery time from a threading face lift. You may have some swelling and bruising, but you should be able to continue with your daily routine.
A few things to remember:
- Don’t rub or massage your face for at least ten days
- Take Ibuprofen for discomfort
- Avoid any other aesthetic procedures for at least seven days
- Avoid alcohol and anticoagulants for seven days. Advise your provider if you are required to continue these medications for health reasons
What results can I expect?
Results are instant and natural-looking. You will see an overall improvement in your skin’s appearance. After about two weeks, a process of natural protein synthesis will begin and results will continue to improve. You can expect for these results to last anywhere from two to four years, depending on your age and the elasticity of your skin.
The thread itself dissolves within twelve weeks, but at that point new collagen has formed around the thread, and the results are maintained.
